What inspired you to join KUMA?

I tried kickboxing when I lived in California and I loved it but wasn’t able to keep up with it because of my schedule and how far away the studio was. I saw an ad online for KUMA Westbrook opening and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try!

What keeps you coming back?

The lovely people I’ve met definitely keep me coming back. I really like how supportive people are of each other. I also think kickboxing is a way more fun way to exercise than running (no hate to runners!)

What challenges have you faced in your fitness journey and how have you overcome them?

This is the most consistent I’ve been able to stick with regularly (or at least semi regularly) coming to a gym ever in my life! It’s been almost a year since Westbrook opened and I joine, I’m amazed at myself that I’m still here but I’m so happy I am. It’s really easy to give up when exercising by yourself so having the group setting really helps me overcome my want to quit halfway through any exercise 🤣

What is your favorite workout or activity at KUMA and why?

I actually just love the regular kickboxing classes. I feel so accomplished after each one and I like how everyone encourages each other during them. But I also love trying some of the pop up classes! Keep ‘em guessin

How has the community at KUMA influenced or supported you?

How much time do we have? I love when people in class encourage each other and I’ve been personally encouraged by a ton of people in and out of class. I love all the activities and events KUMA has been putting on for people to join outside of class and connecting with people from all walks of life. I love meeting so many different types of amazing women. And also dancing in class during breaks or during wall sits – this is important support 😁

What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?

Lean into the things you enjoy and don’t be afraid to make friends in class because it’s way better to feel like a part of a group then to struggle on your own through something. Keep going in whatever way works best for you and know that you’re amazing!

Is there a fellow member or a coach at KUMA who has been particularly supportive or inspirational to you? Give them a shoutout! Tell us how they’ve made a positive impact on your journey.

So many amazing humans at KUMA!! But from day one Coach Kiira and Coach Mary have been awesome and personable. I love chatting with them! And also Erin in 9am Fridays always is cracking me up, and makes class go by so fast!

Fun Fact: Tell us something fun or unexpected about yourself – any hobbies, talents, or surprising stories?

I love tennis! Anyone want to play tennis?
