What inspired you to join KUMA?
Among the many activities I did as a child, dance was my favorite so I’ve always liked classes style exercise classes. I was inspired to join Kuma by two of my friends, one started boxing and my friend Mary told me about Kuma! She had been going to Saco for a while and mentioned how much she loved it.

What keeps you coming back?
The classes are so much fun, but I’d say it’s really the community. We always have a lot of fun in class and I know that at the end of the day, even if I am tired I have something to look forward to!

What challenges have you faced in your fitness journey and how have you overcome them?
I’ve struggled to consistent with exercise on my own since college. I tried to go to a gym to work out alone or go running but then would fall off. This was a consistent cycle until I joined Kuma last July. Being able to go to the gym and work out in a fun environment, where I don’t have to think too much makes it easy to say yes to exercise even when I want to say no.

What is your favorite workout or activity at KUMA and why?
I just really love kickboxing. There’s nothing quite like punching the bag really hard or hitting a really nice sounding round house!

How has the community at KUMA influenced or supported you?
Being a part of Kuma has not only helped me accomplish my fitness goals, but has brought me friends and a supportive community that gets me through the week!

What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?
It might feel hard now but consistency is the key to seeing results. Just wait and see how much you can accomplish!! I never thought I’d be able to hold a plank for an entire minute and now a year later I can (still hard to do lol)

Is there a fellow member or a coach at KUMA who has been particularly supportive or inspirational to you? Give them a shoutout! Tell us how they’ve made a positive impact on your journey.
Shout out to Mary DeLong for inspiring me to join Kuma and being my Lift buddy! I was lucky to take a lot of classes with Mary and Kira when I first started and without them, I don’t know how I would still be doing this every week.

Fun Fact: Tell us something fun or unexpected about yourself – any hobbies, talents, or surprising stories?
Some of you know, but not everyone knows that I am a youth defense attorney. I love my job and have tons of crazy stories, one that was in the paper this winter!
