What inspired you to join KUMA?

I was looking for a new sport after a bad injury prevented me from playing soccer. Coach Kiira invited me to a punch and brunch class in Saco and when Westbrook opened, I joined immediately!

What keeps you coming back?

I love the safe space and being surrounded by other women. Group classes help me stay motivated and keep things interesting! It’s always a good day when I get to spend time at Kuma!

What challenges have you faced in your fitness journey and how have you overcome them?

After my reconstructive nose surgery I went years trying to find a sport I felt comfortable participating in. I struggled to find something I wanted to stick with, nothing felt right for me. Finding Kuma has changed my life for the better! It’s what I was looking for!

What is your favorite workout or activity at KUMA and why?

I love strength training and helping in Foundations. I’m very passionate about maintaining my mobility as I age, so starting young and establishing good habits is very important to me. I love helping in Foundations because I like to help people feel comfortable and giving back to the community that has done so much for me.

How has the community at KUMA influenced or supported you?

One thing that has pleasantly surprised me is that Kuma has helped me come out of my shell. I’ve made an effort to get involved and spend time with people in and out of the studio.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey?

Remember that everyone has to start somewhere, so be kind to yourself. Starting is SO HARD!

Is there a fellow member or a coach at KUMA who has been particularly supportive or inspirational to you? Give them a shoutout! Tell us how they’ve made a positive impact on your journey.

There are so many, but my friend Tiffany joined right after me and I’ve just really liked having her on this journey with me!

Fun Fact: Tell us something fun or unexpected about yourself – any hobbies, talents, or surprising stories?

I only have 24 teeth (I’ll save you time – 32 is normal for adults)
